Faceless Mermaid

Mailbox at former ‘Willard & Sons’ Boatyard’ – painted by my great-grandfather. Painting has faded over the years.

It was raining the day I took this photograph. Everything was still beautiful, even with the rain. The rain looked like tears.

I walked down to the new piers built by the new owners (developers) and watched the rain plunk the surface of the grey-green waters of Mill Creek. A duck family swam in the middle of the creek, and on the far side, an abandoned sailboat was listing – completely on it’s side.

My insides seemed to be mirrored in my surroundings that day.
