Some of the sights around Orchard Beach in August…
Orchard Beach is where my family has lived for over 60 years, along Mill Creek, on the Chesapeake Bay.
This August has been cooler then usual, especially the evenings getting into the 50s. The jungle is still green and lush, and cicadas are in full force.
The vegetable garden is producing a cornucopia of flavors, colors, shapes, and sizes – acorn squash; yellow, red, and purple tomatoes; asian melon; cantaloupe; green beans; purple and red scorpion hot peppers; habanero, ghost, and jalapeno hot peppers; green bell and banana peppers; butternut squash; spaghetti squash; and massive pumpkins.
August is for grilling whole rockfish, making jalapeno infused margaritas, steamed yellow squash and zuchinni, and fresh tomato and basil salad.
The crabs have started to make their way up the Chesapeake Bay, and into Mill Creek. You quietly tiptoe along the docks, peeking around the edge of the pilings looking for them just below the surface of the water, clinging to the piling chomping on the barnacles and algae.
Come take a walk with me…
