“make decisions from the heart and use your head to make it work out” – fortune cookie wisdom
So on Saturday, I was in NYC visiting a friend and my cousin. I found myself partying with a bunch of Italians (actually from Italy) and Indians (actually from India) at an ethnic pot-luck in Queens. Much wildness ensued, which included sharing music, hooka, drinks, dance moves, food, political discussions and friends. A friend’s drink selection brought Psy and “Gangnam Style” to life. And a new friend’s phone case brought the conversation around to Banksy.
One of the many things we discussed was the “pseudonymous United Kingdom-based, graffiti artist, political activist, film director, and painter” known as Banksy. I had remembered hearing about him before, but I got more of the story about his work, and his recent visit to NYC. The apartment we were partying at happened to have a Banksy piece literally right right around the corner. Unfortunately the day after it was painted, it was defaced:
My friend, from China, found a korean drink with our friend Psy (of “Gangnam Style”) on the label. Of course we played the song, danced, and drank. Note, that according to wikipedia, “On December 21, 2012, “Gangnam Style” became the first YouTube video to reach a billion views. As of December 9, 2013, the music video has been viewed over 1.844 billion times on YouTube, and it is the site’s most watched video after surpassing Justin Bieber’s single ‘Baby’.”
And a friend had this fortune cookie tucked into her phone case…
