Hiking in Southern Maryland: Cypress Swamp and Bay Overlook

The winter weather gave us a nice break last weekend for some nice hiking weather so I trekked with a good friend down to Calvert County, Maryland to the Battle Creek Cypress Swamp, the farthest north cypress swamp in the country, and then to the American Chestnut Land Trust (ACLT) hiking trails.

Even in the still winter landscape of bare trees, there were some majestic scenes including some bald cypress nubs that look like fairy homes, and at the ACLT, an old barn and farm land that spread out to trees along a cliff on the Chesapeake Bay – a vision of a dream.
