Silently Keep

A rupture of the peace,
a lurking beast
of insecurity, mistrust,
and stifled grief.
The heart folds and retreats.

Take this love, and package it up
put it in a box
tie it with a string
and bury it far down
in a dark corner,
in the recesses of the heart.
Be gentle.
Preserve it and keep it safe.
Let it not haunt
nor lament.

Hard eyes
and diesel engine sighs,
light lifts dark anguish.
Wild hearts
hush to sleep
and silently keep
a whisper
deep deep in the bones.

silently keep

…a poem.
