Adventures: Amsterdam Street Art

There used to be a law in Amsterdam that if a property was vacant for a year or more, you were allowed to move in if you had a table, a chair, and a bed. This was due to the high cost of living and what to do about vacant properties. In the 1980s students squatted in this house, but this year the laws changed and in 2015 the students were evicted after over 30 years of occupying the building.

There was a huge public outcry after the new plans for the building were presented, which includes a plan to paint the face of the building white. The artist who created the multi-colored snake mural abs others advocated for its preservation. The city agreed to remove all of the front stones and recreate the painting elsewhere in the city to preserve this important piece of Amsterdam culture for future generations.
